WHY TWO-WAY RADIO?

It is a fair question as many think radio is old school. Well telephones are even older. Two-way radios have evolved just as telephones have evolved. For many businesses it is more cost effective to use two-way radios for in-house on the job communications than say using cell phones, and often they work when (disasters) and where (boon docks), there is no cell phone coverage.

  • Over a 5-year period purchasing & operating a two-way radio will range from $1000 to $4500.
  • Over a 5-year period purchasing & operating a cell phone will range from $1800 to $6000.

When you provide cell phones for your staff that have no business related need to communicate externally while working for you, you are enabling them to be distracted by non-business related things, at your unnecessary expense.

One to one, within a group, and across the whole fleet communications at the press of a button, that is pretty easy communications with two-way radios. Times are tough, you need high efficiency in your business to stay competitive.

Two-way radios are built for the purpose of "IN-HOUSE COMMUNICATIONS" and many will also do some pretty good HSE duties for you as well, such as lone worker monitoring and GPS tracking.

The Lone Worker function basically has the radio asking every 30-minutes of no active radio use by the individual, "Are you okay?"

  • The two-way radio will keep asking this for 5-minutes, and if the individual does not do something active on his radio to cancel the alarm, the two-way radio will start an emergency status alarm advising the other members of the team (including the office) that this individual is unresponsive.

GPS tracking eases logistics and further improves operational efficiency.

  • Logistics are improved by the two-way radios regularly transmitting their geographic location, to a server.
  • The dispatching team can see by glancing at their monitors who is where and thus best suited for the next job.

Geofences (electronic borders around various locations) also help you monitor how long staff are in the remote yard having smoko, taking to load & other things that successful bosses want to know.

SMS (texting) is a great feature for both dispatching work/jobs and sending general updates.
